Marina Bay expansion

Singapore in 2026: Marina Bay, the Fourth Tower and Marina Bay Sands Expansion

Singapore’s Marina Bay is entering a period of major change. In 2026, the familiar three-tower Marina Bay Sands remains open while a separate development rises beside it, adding a fourth hotel tower alongside new entertainment, hospitality and business facilities.

What Is Being Built Beside Marina Bay Sands?

Las Vegas Sands broke ground on the development in July 2025. It is planned around a 55-storey hotel tower with 570 all-suite rooms, private terraces and a rooftop area. Safdie Architects, which designed the original Marina Bay Sands, is also responsible for the architectural work on the new complex.

Casino entertainment is no longer limited to large physical resorts, as a substantial part of the sector has moved online. This includes websites such as Nolimit Way, where the game catalogue covers slots, live dealer titles, poker, blackjack, baccarat, roulette and video poker. Marina Bay Sands represents the opposite end of this spectrum: its casino operates within a much larger tourism complex that also brings together accommodation, restaurants, retail, exhibitions and live entertainment.

A major part of the Marina Bay Sands expansion is a purpose-built arena for around 15,000 spectators. It is intended to host concerts and international touring productions, while approximately 200,000 square feet of premium meeting space is planned for conferences, exhibitions and corporate events.

Why the Fourth Tower Is More Than Another Hotel

The fourth tower is the most visible element of the project, but the development is designed to influence how visitors move around and use the wider Marina Bay area. Plans include pedestrian connections with Bayfront MRT, Gardens by the Bay and the existing Marina Bay Sands complex.

The project also provides for restaurants, luxury retail, wellness facilities and additional gaming space. Singapore previously granted Marina Bay Sands an option for up to 2,000 square metres of extra approved gaming area and as many as 1,000 additional gaming machines, although any expansion remains subject to the country’s regulatory framework.

This means the project should not be viewed simply as an enlargement of the casino. Singapore’s tourism policy continues to emphasise non-gaming attractions, while the hotel suites, arena, conference facilities, restaurants and public connections account for a significant part of the development.

What the Expansion Means for Singapore in 2026

For travellers, 2026 is a construction year rather than the opening year of the new tower. Visitors continue to use the existing Marina Bay Sands complex, including the hotel, SkyPark, shopping areas, restaurants, ArtScience Museum and casino, while the new development gradually takes shape nearby.

The investment has been estimated at around US$8 billion. The scale reflects Singapore’s efforts to strengthen its position in high-value tourism, international entertainment and business travel, particularly through large events, conferences and premium accommodation.

The development also forms part of broader changes around Marina Bay. Government plans for the district include additional public attractions, event areas and improvements to the waterfront, helping the area develop beyond its existing combination of hotels, offices, shopping and casino entertainment.

When Will the New Marina Bay Sands Development Open?

Visitors should not expect the fourth tower to be completed in 2026. Current Marina Bay Sands planning extends construction to the end of the decade, with completion expected around 2030 and an opening previously indicated for January 2031, subject to government approval and the progress of construction.

Earlier documents referred to a 2029 completion target, but the timetable has changed as the development programme has evolved. Travellers planning future visits should therefore rely on confirmed announcements from Marina Bay Sands rather than older projected dates.

What is already clear in 2026 is the scale of the transformation. The fourth tower, new arena, hotel suites and business facilities are intended to extend Marina Bay Sands beyond its original three-tower design while strengthening Marina Bay’s role as one of Singapore’s main tourism, entertainment and event districts.
